Hiking and Walking
Whether you’re walking to work, planning to travel, or spending a week hiking, it’s essential to have the right gear for the job. A good pair of comfortable, well-fitting shoes or boots is essential to prevent injuries and foot problems both during your hike/walk and afterwards.
Our podiatrists are specially trained and are passionate about hiking and walking. We are familiar with many of Great Walks, such as the Routeburn, Heaphy and the Kepler tracks, the Oxfam Trailwalker and more. We understand hiking and we know what your feet need to prepare.
We offer a Hiking and Walking package which includes:
- A 45-minute consultation with an expert podiatrist, who will ensure you walk away feeling confident and prepared
- Recommendations for footwear, socks, feet first aid, and any other gear you may need for your hike, walk or travel
- Tips and tricks to care for your feet and get the most from your hike
What happens during a consultation?
Bring in your current walking/hiking shoes and we’ll put them to the test. We’ll examine them with your feet in mind, assessing the shoes for uneven wear or other damage and determine how well they fit your feet. We’ll discuss how you plan to use the shoes. We’ll also examine your feet to make sure your shoes will work well for you. If you don’t have a pair of hiking shoes, don’t worry! We’ll make sure you get the perfect pair.
What should I bring to my consultation?
Bring in your current pair of walking shoes and/or hiking boots. This allows us to examine them with your feet in mind. If you’d don’t have a pair of shoes to bring in, don’t worry, we’ll work with you to find the best pair for your feet.
